Lisker Oy has released a new ProfiGrade™ AI update, which integrates AI-assisted defect detection into the familiar ProfiGrade grading system. This update applies to existing systems without requiring changes to camera technology or sawmill line structures.
ProfiGrade is already known for its high-quality grading. The new AI-assisted defect detection takes grading to an even higher level.
AI improves defect detection accuracy by 24% compared to previous methods, which results in more consistent grading and reduced deviations in production. The overall accuracy of AI-based defect detection is 93%, and the system achieves over 96% value yield.
Lisker’s AI model and AI training environment have been developed in collaboration with a Finnish AI pioneer. The model has been trained using tens of thousands of defect images from Lisker’s data bank, collected over several decades in various sawmill environments, and from development projects carried out with customers. The training material comprehensively covers various defect categories.
AI does not completely replace ProfiGrade’s existing defect detection but functions as its intelligent extension. AI alters a defect’s classification only when it is sufficiently confident in its assessment. This ensures that the system’s operation remains controlled and predictable in production.
The update is available for all ProfiGrade models (TFE-6, TF-3, and 360).
